Master Tape

I first heard master tape watching Bernie the Iceman Grundman work on Fiedler's Gaite Parisienne. The information poured out of the Iceman's Tannoy monitors. You'd expect a priceless cultural artifact like the master of one of the earliest stereo recordings to be transported in a mu metal box and arrive in its own personal armored car. You'd expect wrong. It arrived in a plain cardboard box via common carrier where, you know, it might've been placed next to a loudspeaker with a honking great magnet and been wiped out.
